The Delaware Trust Option for Californians and Non-U.S. Individuals
Now that 2020 has passed the half-way point and is careening toward 2021, clients are asking how to lock in today’s lofty federal gift-tax, estate-tax, and GST exemptions (currently $11.58 million), knowing that those exemptions are already scheduled to shrink to $5 million (adjusted for inflation), in 2026 and that they may well plummet to those or even lower levels as soon as early next year if November’s elections bring regime-change in Washington. California clients are also asking whether there is any way to reduce or defer the annoying California income tax.
The answer to the second question is “yes” in many situations through the proper use of trusts, and the potential savings are nothing to sneeze at, even in the time of COVID-19. For example, incurring a $1 million long-term gain in a properly constructed trust can save over $100,000 of tax!
If your clients are asking these same questions, you should consider watching Dick Nenno in his exclusive LISI Webinar where he will explore these subjects and other reasons why Californians and non-U.S. resident should consider the Delaware option in their estate plans.
In his content-packed webinar, Dick will cover the following topics:
· California income-tax planning for grantor and non-grantor trusts
· The availability of perpetual trusts
· The use of directed trusts by business owners and others
· The stronger asset protection available through third-party and self-settled Delaware trusts
· The utility of “quiet” trusts and the lifetime validation of trusts
· Creating new trusts in and moving existing trusts to Delaware
· Why Delaware is preferable to other “leading” trust jurisdictions
· And much more!
Dick’s webinar is a must-see if:
· You represent Californians
· You represent clients with friends and family members who are Californians
· You represent clients with friends and family members who might become Californians
