Pre-Nups: An Alternative View
Depending upon whether your client is the propertied betrothed or the poorer one, many people view pre-nups as either scourges on the confidence that the marriage will work out or a necessary evil foist upon them by meddling parents. And the lawyers end up winning and making everyone unhappy!
In their exclusive LISI Webinar, Emily and Paul take an alternative view:
That lawyers have been going about this all wrong!!!
They suggest that many lawyers who work in the area of pre-nups themselves actually sow the seeds of dissention in the future marriage. Paul and Emily instead suggest that estate planners should view a pre-nup discussion as a valuable opportunity to enhance the communication abilities of the partners-to-be.
They’ll introduce the participants to effective ways to introduce the concept of purposeful prenups and show how to conduct such a conversation between the betrothed, as well as some tips for handling aggressive zero sum game lawyers.
